Robert de Jong

With a deeply rooted passion for multimedia technology Robert first became involved with and exposed to multimedia tools with a Commodore Amiga amidst the early 1990's. The Amiga taught Robert the importance of being nimble with video and digital imaging as much as it fostered a distinct digital creativity.

Throughout the mid to late 90's the rise of Linux provided impetus to explore new technologies. Linux effectively inspired an open minded method to technology use. For Robert, experiencing Linux taught how older computing hardware could be readily rejuvenated, gaining significant usefulness and security in the process.

Having experienced the strengths and weaknesses of various versions of Microsoft Windows (NT, 95,95b, 2000, XP), his adoption of an Apple based, creative digital workflow was an imperative while contemplating starting a professional career. The added similarities of performance, features and stability to Linux, coupled with its multimedia traits shared with the earlier Amiga made choosing to pursue multimedia production work with Apple based solutions the obvious choice.

Robert grew up around Nikon and Mamiya photographic equipment coupled with a love for photography. On reflection of Robert's work, it needs to be said that it would not be what it is today without his experiences had during a Visual Dynamics course taught by Claude Martel at Concordia University. For nearly seven days a week, from early morning rises to the fall of sunlight over the course of one summer semester, Robert photographed the Montreal Old Port region, as well as surrounding areas, extensively.

Beginning in June of 2006, Robert's been involved with Montreal's Ile Sans Fil, a Montreal community wireless group. Ile Sans Fil facilitates the development of free community wireless access to some 50,000+ Montreal users using the hotspot portal software: Wifi Dog. Ile Sans Fil spans more than 150+ hotspots and growing around the Island.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with a Specialization in Communication Studies from Concordia University. Robert has been accredited with a Diplôme d'Études Collégiales in Languages and Literature from Montreal's Dawson College. When not involved with Community Wireless group Ile Sans Fil in Montreal, Robert de Jong is an Independent Communications Consultant and Multimedia Contractor living and working in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
